Policy Announcement | Effective from September 1st: The Health Commission has issued the "Standards for the Preparation and Cryopreservation of Umbilical Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cells"
Release Date:2026-05-04

Recently, the National Health Commission of China has issued the "Standards for the Preparation and Cryopreservation of Umbilical Cord Blood Hematopoietic Stem Cells", which will come into effect on September 1, 2026.

Scope of application of this standard: It is only applicable to the preparation, cryopreservation and testing of non-related donor umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cells in umbilical cord blood hematopoietic stem cell banks. Autologous umbilical cord blood storage is not covered by this standard.

This standard sets unified technical requirements for the entire process of umbilical cord blood collection, preparation and cryopreservation for the first time. It covers key indicators such as environmental cleanliness (requiring A/B grade), cell activity detection (requiring nuclear cell activity ≥ 85%), and cryopreservation temperature (≤ -150℃). Its introduction has filled the gap of the absence of national standards in the industry, will eliminate non-compliant institutions, enhance the safety of umbilical cord blood treatment, and provide a basis for the public to choose compliant storage institutions.
